Anthony Melia – Managing Director

Anthony is a highly motivated industry-qualified and accomplished SHEQ professional with over 20 years’ experience working in the construction industry. Anthony has an innovative and refreshing approach in all areas of SHEQ, having delivered across many sectors, with expertise in health and safety management and understanding of regulations associated with niche markets such as petro chemical / construction / / civils and MEPH works.

Anthony continually drives the development, improvement and implementation of Clients’ SHEQ policies, working cohesively with our sector clients to ensure standards are maintained and complied with. He also specialises in Quality Systems, ISO audits and accreditations, SHEQ training and the development of accident and incident reduction strategies. Anthony’s relentless drive and enthusiasm to create safe, environmentally-friendly workplaces, coupled with high levels of collaboration and integration of best practice runs through all Aspen Thorn clients.

Anthony has 3 daughters and a son, so does quite a bit of running round, especially with his son, who he follows around the country watching him play football. He is partial to a glass of red wine, and loves to experience new cultures and visit new places. | 0151 707 3244

Oliver Thomson – SHEQ Southern Manager

Oliver is a successful senior health and safety manager with experience delivering on high profile projects. He is a determined and highly organised individual, with a strong work ethic, and proven ability to manage projects, strict budgets and timescales. Our clients will be impressed by his professional manner and tenacious approach.

An accomplished CDM co-ordinator, Oliver has managed over 100 projects ranging between £100,000 and £25 million across sectors such as schools, residential homes, construction and housing associations. Most recently Oliver has been site based on two large projects – £22m and £14m respectively, his duties including site project setup, undertaking audits and accident/incident investigations, carrying out fire risk assessments, producing and reviewing risk assessments and other SHEQ procedural processes. Oliver has also delivered training on health and safety procedures, face fit testing, behavioural safety training, and ensured our Clients teams on site receive some of the best SHEQ support the industry has to offer. | 0151 707 3244

Richard Davsion – SHEQ Northern Manager

A highly professional, adaptable and dynamic SHEQ practitioner, Richard has acquired extensive experience of SHEQ management in diverse, challenging and high risk work environments.

An enthusiastic and instinctive communicator Richard can make a compelling business case for a pro-active approach to Health and Safety management, elicits commitment and involvement from all levels of a workforce and helps realise associated business benefits. Richard is as equally accomplished at developing robust, user friendly and certificated management systems as he is in assuring clients of legal compliance or delivering lively, interactive training sessions. Moreover, Richard possesses a true sense of care for the health, safety and welfare of everyone he works with and constantly strives to assist in eliminating harm from the workplace.

Richard has top level management experience in civil engineering, rail, construction, waste and manufacturing sectors and can demonstrate a track record of improving health and safety performance in all of these sectors. In recent years, he has also developed a specialism in culture and behavioural safety; delivering sustainable culture development programmes into multi national companies.

Richard is married and has two young children, which obviously leaves him with plenty of spare time. He fills that spare time with cooking up a feast in the kitchen and then trying to work it all off by either going to the gym or walking in the countryside. | 0151 707 3244

Michael Clarke – Senior SHEQ Consultant

Mike is a valued member of our team with a methodical approach and a keen eye for detail. He possesses an excellent work ethic and is comfortable communicating at all levels.

During his tenure as an advisor, Mike has serviced 21+ projects ranging from £1m to £12m and has contributed towards the increase from client scored health and safety KPI, site project setup and facilitates full SHEQ services for some of our key clients northern based projects. He has also been instrumental in developing and managing a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire process for one of our key client’s. Mike has also delivered training for health and safety procedures, risk assessment and face fit testing.

Using his strong auditing experience and qualification, Mike has helped many of our Clients achieve amongst other accreditations, Achilles Building Confidence status, CHAS and Construction line. | 0151 707 3244

Helen Langford – Operations Manager

A highly organised and efficient member of our team, Helen is responsible for all our operational, administrative, financial and training functions and systems. She also tries to keep us all in check!

Coming from a background in construction with 9 years of experience from managing multi-million pound budgets, setting up office systems and procedures to managing the administration team, Helen has a wealth of experience. She is hard working, friendly and committed in her approach.

Recently NEBOSH qualified, Helen is looking to attend an internal auditors course, which will only enhance the skills and experience she currently possesses.

Previous to joining Aspen Thorn, Helen took time out of her career to start a family. Craving the hustle and bustle of an office environment, Helen became a member of our growing team and has quickly established herself as a vital and respected member, who always goes above and beyond.

In her spare time, Helen loves to chill and spend time with her daughter and husband. Family and friends are important to Helen and most weekends she is busy doing something! A favourite being lunch and prosecco with her 3 best friends! Helen is a ‘foodie’ and loves cooking and baking with her husband, often whilst sharing a bottle of red. | 0151 707 3244

Jackson Gaudie – Administrator

Jackson started in spring 2015 on a NVQ business administration apprentice scheme and quickly settled in proving to be a great asset to the team.

Working with Helen, Jackson provides administrative support to the team and our clients. Looking after our administrative and training functions, Jackson liaises with training providers and books individuals onto courses, issuing joining instructions and upon completion sending out certificates. In addition he helps to look after our training and consultancy clients, ensuring all necessary paperwork is issued. Supporting one of our major clients, Jackson is involved in the administration of their Passport to Work scheme and PQQ process.

Jackson is hard working, friendly and helpful. Enthusiastic to learn and keen to develop new skills, once his NVQ training is completed, Jackson will attend a NEBOSH course.

Miles Davies – Senior SHEQ Consultant

Miles Davies is the newest member of the Aspen Thorn team but comes with 30 years experience within health and safety industry. He has spent the last 10 years working for a tier 1 principal contractor. He was responsible for health and safety on a wide range and size of projects in a variety of different sectors including nuclear power and the London underground upgrade scheme as well as a £200 million multi storey apartment block and hotel construction.

Miles’s excellent communication skills were also utilised during his role as quality assurance and handover manager for the Aquatic Centre on the Olympic Park and London Blackfriars station. These skills led him to be the Accident and Incident Investigator for the most severe incidents across the group.

With the change in focus on Occupational Health Miles became an industry champion delivering educational seminars and setting up focus groups across the construction industry. Miles started his safety career as European training manager for a large outdoor adventure company and still has a passion which he now shares with his children, regularly visiting north wales to go climbing, canoeing and mountain biking. And last year achieved one of his goals by cycling up mount Etna. | 0151 707 3244
